Assessment User Experience

ASSESSMENTS

Find out what it’s like to take the Business EQ assessment - prepare for your assessment by reading about the style of questions and how it works.

Get started with the Business EQ assessment

Whatever the reason you are taking the EBW, whether it be for a job application, a development programme, coaching, team building or one of its many other uses - you will be completing the same assessment using an easy to use online assessment platform.

Before you take the assessment, you’ll be sent an e-mail with your username and a password. This e-mail will also give you an internet address – just clicking on the link will take you to the EBW assessment page.

When you get there, you’ll be asked to enter the username and password from your e-mail and you’ll begin your session. Everything you have to do will be explained very clearly and there are no time limits so you don’t have to rush through the instructions.

It occurred to me if my managers read my EBW Report it would resonate much better with them and provide them with more insights into what makes me tick than if they read my OPQ 32 personality profile. FYI I will be recommending that we use the EBW in the future.

What it’s like to take the Business EQ assessment

You’ll be presented with a number of questions, we’ve given some examples on the next tab, and you simply choose an answer from five or six options.

It typically takes about 20 minutes to complete all the questions plus a further 15 minutes if you are also taking the team assessment but you can take longer if you need to.

You’ll also be asked a number of questions about yourself such as your gender, ethnic origin and age.

You don’t have to complete these as they will have no impact on your assessment, but they are helpful to the designers of the EBW to make sure that the tool works fairly and to inform research, not only on the EBW, but on the study of Emotional Intelligence more broadly.

When you’ve finished, your results will be sent to the EBW Certified Practitioner who will be interpreting them.

Take a look at some Example Questions

All of the questions in the EBW are about your emotions, attitudes, behaviours and opinions, none of them require you to solve problems or carry out calculations so you don’t need to do any preparation.

Typical questions look like the following:

“How good are you at the following compared to most people?”

You will be given a list of activities such as:

  1. Persuading others to do what you want

  2. Keeping calm when those around you are getting angry

  3. Asking other people for help

And you will be asked to rate each of these activities as one of the following:

  • Much worse than most people

  • A little bit worse than most people

  • About the same as most people

  • A little better than most people

  • A good deal better than most

In another section you may be asked something like:

"To what extent do the following words and phrases describe you?"

You will then be shown a number of words and phrases such as:

  1. Patient

  2. Decisive

  3. Outspoken

You will be asked to rate each of these words as being either:

  • Not at all like me

  • Not much like me

  • A bit like me

  • Quite like me

  • Very like me

How to get the best results for you

Remember that there are no ‘bad’ EBW results - each person's EBW report will have strengths associated with it along with areas where you might want to develop yourself.

Firstly, make sure you have set aside enough time to complete the assessment. It typically takes around 20 minutes (or 35 minutes if you are taking the team assessment as well) but leave longer to make sure you don’t feel rushed.

Time Icon

Take the assessment somewhere you won’t be disturbed – you need to concentrate on what you are being asked and on giving the best answers you can so you shouldn’t be doing other tasks at the same time.

Honesty Icon

It’s also important that you answer the assessment yourself, rather than involving others. You will be asked what YOU think you are like, not what others think you are like.

Time Icon

To get the most accurate results from the EBW, you should make sure you are clear about what you are being asked in each section and answer as honestly as you can.

Silence Icon

Don’t take too long on any one question, your first response will often be the most appropriate. Also, don’t worry too much about whether a statement is, for example, ‘a bit like me’ or ‘quite like me’ – no single question is going to have a big impact on the results.

Self Icon

You don’t have to worry about the individual answers you give or how you may appear to the person who gets the results. They won’t see the answers to individual questions, just the results of combinations of these questions, which they are trained to interpret.

Trust Icon

Sometimes people answer the questions as the person they would like to be, rather than the person they feel they really are - try to avoid doing this as it will not help your results.

We hope you enjoy taking the Business EQ Assessment and find it a helpful experience!
